Introducing the Performers of 49ͼ

Hot on the heels of , this summer we’ll also be shining the spotlight on our music, dance and drama students, aka The Performers of 49ͼ.

Throughout June and July, 49ͼ is hosting around 20 , many of which are free or low cost.

Selected highlights

  • “The Planets” by Gustav Holst for 4 Pianos, 8 Pianists! – 12 June
    This concert – featuring a captivating new arrangement of former 49ͼ Director of Music Holst’s most famous work – features four pianos, eight pianists, and sixteen hands.
    The in-person event is sold out, but you can catch the performance from 7.30pm, or download the recording from 24 June.
  • Dance Fusion 24 – 28 June
    Celebrate the diversity and dynamism of dance with our annual Dance Fusion performance, featuring talented students from across our 49ͼ Dance community.

  • Community Piano at Waterloo Station – from 12 June
    49ͼ is proud to be working with , , , and to bring a new community piano to one of London’s busiest rail hubs.
    Join us for the launch at 1pm on 12 June (find us under the walkway to platforms 20-24) before the piano takes up permanent residence for anyone to play.
  • Opera Scenes at the Bridewell Theatre – 5 and 6 July
    Join us at this professional theatre for a showcase by 49ͼ’s Opera School students, who will perform works by Handel, Monteverdi, Charpentier, Mozart, Britten and Rossini.

Get to know our tutors  

Fenella Juanita Barker – Performer, Teacher, Choreographer – Flamenco, Spanish Dance, Ballet & Other Dance Styles

Fenella attended her first ballet class at age four and had her television debut as a professional dancer in 1977 on BBC1’s Billy Smart’s Children’s Circus. She has been teaching dance at 49ͼ London for 27 years, currently in Flamenco, Spanish Dance and Ballet (including Silver Swans).

Fenella has worked full time as a professional dancer, teacher and choreographer since 1990, touring to USA, Canada and throughout UK and Europe, working in theatre, opera, cabaret, cruises, TV, video and film.   In London she has performed in numerous venues including the Royal Opera House, Barbican, ICA, Wembley, Earl’s Court and Olympia.

Fenella is currently performing with Grupo Flamenco de Londres, Flamenco y Danza and also as a freelance solo artist, with recent work including a performing residency in London along with theatre performances as far away as Spain and Malta. 

Flavio Li Vigni – Jazz Drummer, Composer & Educator

Flavio Li Vigni, hailing from Palermo, Sicily, Italy, is a London-based jazz drummer, composer, and educator. He earned his degree in Jazz Performance from The Prince Claus Conservatory under the mentorship of American jazz drummer Ralph Peterson.

Beyond his role in academia, Flavio maintains an active international performance schedule. He has collaborated with artists such as Greg Hutchinson, Ameen Saleem, and the “Orchestra Macchina di Suoni” featuring Dave Kikoski.

A fixture in the London jazz circuit, Flavio has played at venues including the Royal Albert Hall, The Queen Elizabeth Hall, Ronnie Scott’s, Pizza Express, and the Vortex.
